The national anthem protests have caused the NFL to become one of the most divisive brands in the country. As a result, ratings have crashed, ticket sales have plummeted, and fans have boycotted the league. It has gotten so bad that many broadcasting stations have stopped showing the national anthem altogether.
But on Sunday, there seemed to be a shift in behavior and attitude toward the national anthem for Veterans Day weekend. Before the game, Fox Sports decided to show the national anthem despite their previous decision to no longer show it at all. But what they showed is something we haven’t been used to seeing this season.
Instead of showing players protesting, the station took their cameras off the field to a battleship. Troops played the national anthem on the ship as other troops stood to salute the flag.
That’s how it’s done.
